Repentance = Seeking God’s Mercy

first aidIt didn’t take long before I heard the groans of my students as I displayed, in bold, big letters, the word, “repent”. They were then asked to list other words that came to mind. Sin, embarrassment, bishop, confess, pain, mistake, unworthy, discouragement, hell, hopelessness were among the words most listed. There were a few who listed Atonement, Christ, joy, and change, but the overwhelmingly, most-picked words were negative and their comments certainly reflected that my students believed repenting was no fun. Would it kill You to bless me a little bit!?!

Life is hard. It is an eternal truth and we ALL can relate, can empathize.  We should never, ever think that someone has it easy, without problems, because no one really does. Everyone is here to gain experience and learn.  That means we will all face adversity, struggles, heart-aches etc.  We know that, we intellectually get it. But don’t you have those days when you look up to heaven, with fists clinched and yell something to the effect of, “WHAT THE HECK!” We have those Teyve-like conversations with God and wonder, like Joseph, “O God, where art thou? And where is the pavilion that covereth thy hiding place?” (D&C 121:1) Read more of this post

“Where Art Thou” – Inspired Questions

The Garden of Gethsemane

NOTE: The following is a talk given in a Ward Conference several years ago.

After partaking of the forbidden fruit, Adam and Eve hid. They heard Heavenly Father coming to check on them and they were ashamed, so they hid. In Genesis 3:9 God asks a question, “… God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?”

It’s a funny question considering who is asking it. Isn’t God all-knowing? Wouldn’t He know exactly where Adam and Eve where hiding before they even decided to hide? So if He knew, why ask the question?
