A year ago this and next week, Jill and I, along with her parents, experienced the trip of a life time. A number of my posts have recounted the experiences we had in the Holy Lands. In fact, one was even published in the Church News and expressed the sentiment that you don’t have to go to the Holy Lands to experience deep spiritual feelings. One can walk where Jesus walked right here in holy temples. One can come to know Jesus is the son of God right where one stands.

Bold, unwavering faith in the Resurrection is Key

I have been impressed lately with the importance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I don’t know that anyone can overstate the impact and significance – both globally and individually – of the literal resurrection of the Lord. In this secular day when “science” is king and the only way to know anything is through the scientific method, belief in the actual resurrection of Jesus is key and needs to be boldly articulated more often. How far will He go to Redeem?

One of my favorite chapters (ok, really, I don’t have a favorite – there are just too many) is also the longest chapter of the Book of Mormon. Jacob 5 is a prophecy about the House of Israel written by the prophet Zenos detailing their fall, their recovery and the Lord’s unrelenting effort to redeem His people. I have written about the love the Lord has for each us and the importance of being grafted into the roots or covenants. It is 77 verses of the Lord and His servants doing everything they can to save the vineyard. Read more of this post

The Sermon on the Mount and The Book of Mormon

One of the points of theology that set members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) apart from the rest of the Christian world is our belief in The Book of Mormon – Another Testament of Jesus Christ.  In fact, it is for that belief we are called, “Mormons”.

Not Part of the Deal

I was recently taught a scriptural insight that I really enjoyed. In 1 Nephi 17, Lehi and his family finally reach the seashore and the journey stops. I’m sure most (if not all) of the party was hoping they had reached their final destination. However, Nephi is told to go to a nearby mountain for an “interview” with the Lord. Nephi is told that the travelers would have to cross the “many waters”.  Then he was told what to do next:
